Cost Of Kitchen Cabinets

Factors To Consider When Estimating The Cost Of Kitchen Cabinets

There are mainly two reasons why people look into the cost of kitchen cabinets and usually it’s either because they want to completely replace their existing kitchen cabinets due to various causes or because they want to reface their existing cabinetry.

Now the issue of cost is indeed important, more-so even considering the current world-wide economic situation but since we’re talking about kitchen cabinets here, regardless of the fact that we’re talking about an entire remodeling project or just refacing your existing ones the option of going for the cheapest isn’t exactly ideal.

Even if we eliminate all the other factors from the equation and boil it down to cost, ultimately you’ll be getting what you pay for and that’s not always a quality that you will want out of your kitchen cabinets.
This means that the various choices you make in regards to those other factors will directly influence the final cost of kitchen cabinets but the end result will also be distinctly different than if you were to just go for the cheapest possible.

The first factor that comes into play is the materials that your cabinets will be made out of and nowadays there are three main options when it comes to materials: wood, metal and laminate, each of them with their unique pros and cons.

Wood is the longest running material used for this purpose lending its traditional look and warm feel to all the kitchens it inhabits. It is however highly vulnerable to chemical damage and temperature changes as well as changes in humidity, but thanks to modern technology both in the kitchen and in the production process most of these issues are mitigated. However prices will vary wildly depending on the rarity of the type of wood chosen.

Metal, in various incarnations has become a staple of contemporary designs steadily gaining in popularity thanks to its versatility of look and function however this option can prove to be relatively costly.
Laminate is a wholly modern material, being arguably the cheapest material that you can get kitchen cabinets made it offers the widest choice in regards of colors and patterns thus allowing for it to be introduced in pretty much any décor theme possible.

The other main factor that will influence the final cost of kitchen cabinets is that of their type, meaning if they are stock items, semi-custom or custom made cabinets.

The stock cabinets are the ones you will usually find in home improvement stores, which even though aren’t extremely varied, they feature the most popular designs and sizes.

The semi-custom cabinets will be similar to the stock ones however they will offer you more leeway as to design options.

Custom design options will obviously cost more than the stock items already available on the market but if you require something that special that can’t be found on the shelf then this is the best choice for you.
